Bulgaria Ski Weekend
If you want to experience the thrill and sensation of staying in a European resort for a ski vacation for a fraction of the cost, then Bulgaria is the place to go. This European country is a good alternative for The Alps as it offers a great skiing experience without you having to pay a premium price. This country has 16 mountains and various ski resorts that are the perfect places not just for skiing and snowboarding but are also great for rock climbing, camping, caving or just taking long walks.
The ski areas in Bulgaria may not be the largest nor as big as the ones you can find in The Alps and it may be lacking in terms of infrastructure compared to the resorts in the North American region, however, this is best place if you’re looking for great deals and bargains. Despite its low rates, Bulgaria boasts of the latest ski equipments, beautiful and scenic surroundings and slopes that are sure to satisfy your skiing needs. Two resorts of excellent quality within Bulgaria are Borovets and Bansko. Borovets, although small, is a world renowned resort situated at the edge of the Rila mountains. It has 15 lifts and a gondola to take you to higher slopes and ski areas. You can choose from several hotels situated near the lower gondola station for your stay.
Bansko is situated at the base of the northern part of the Pirin Mountains. It is one of the main cultural centers because the city, which is a hundred years old, is very well preserved. A gondola can take you to the center of this resort. This resort boasts of state-of-the-art chair lifts and drag lifts, 30 kilometer runs, thermal springs and swimming pools with sauna that feels great after a day of skiing. Aside from skiing, this resort also offers shopping stalls and a very lively nightlife with its bars, discos and restaurants.
If you’re bringing your kids along on your ski vacation, this is the ideal place to go because of its cost-friendly resorts. Bulgarians are also warm people who will only be too eager to tell you about their rich and colorful past.
